The Department of Otherworldly Technology was founded in the early 1900's to study and reverse engineer alien technology. As their knowledge grew they began to realize that the universe was not all as it seemed. Re-branding themselves as D.O.T. Sigma, they made it their goal to protect humanity and the sum of it's knowledge from any external threat.
